ABOUT THIS COURSE

Is the course approved? Yes, the course is approved by the Tennessee Board of Dentistry. 

How is the course organized? The course is a combination of home study, office activities,  and "hands on" training and evaluation.  The home study portion utilizes online material and videos.  Office activities are done in the dental office where you work. The "hands on" training and evaluation is done at various educational institutions in the state.  (See Hands on agenda)

When is the course offered? You can sign up for the course at any time and begin taking the online portion after the registration fee is paid. "Hands on" classes are held at various times and locations.

 Will I receive continuing education credit for this course?  Yes, you will receive 6 hours of CE credit.

Who is eligible to take this course?  Applicants must be registered dental assistants in the State of Tennessee.

Where is the course held?  The course is held at various dental offices across the State. 

Who are the instructors?  The principle instructor is Dr. William Johnson.  He will be assisted by licensed dental hygiene instructors.

When is the course offered? There are several dates to choose from.  Go to "register" at the top of the page to see the dates. 

How much does it cost?  $150 

When do I have to Pay?  Payment is expected within 14 days after registering.  Sorry, If payment is not received in 14 days, we will have to offer the course to someone on the waiting list.

What is your refund policy?  You will receive a full refund (minus a $25 processing fee) if you cancel at least 14 days before the course.  If you cancel less than 14 days before the course, you will receive a 50% refund.  Sorry, no refunds after the date of the class.

Do I have to take a test afterwards?  There is a written test taken the day you take the hands on portion of the course.  If you pass, you will be issued a new license from the Board of Dentistry with Sealant Application certification added to your registration.  Once you receive your new license, you are authorized to immediately begin applying sealants if directed by the dentist.

Do I have to contact the Board of Dentistry afterwards?  Yes, you will need to send the board a registration fee of $15.  We will provide you with the necessary form.

Do I need to bring anything to the course? Yes, you will need to bring two extracted posterior teeth with minimal decay or restorations, and clinic attire including gloves, mask, safety glasses, and gown.    Please bring the sealant material you use in your office, and, if possible, a curing light.

Do I need to bring a patient?  All participants will be sealing a minimum of four teeth either on another participant or on a patient that they bring.  A dentist must verify the teeth are suitable for sealing.  Click on  "verification form" at the top of this page for a copy of the form.

What will I learn?  After completing this course, you will be able to;

bulletState the negative aspects of acid etching,
bulletCompare the various methods of moisture control necessary when applying sealants,
bulletPrepare a tooth for a sealant including isolation and acid etching,
bulletSeal a tooth following a predetermined regimen,
bulletSelf evaluate the success of sealant placement.
